The Crag
Last weekend Rich and I went to a little mini-crag in Sedona. We had been there a couple times. There was one route there we really liked and we'd seen a few lines we were interested in bolting. Not having motivation all winter, we decided we'd buy some bolts and put up those lines--just to get outside and get some exercise, spend some time in the sun and maybe get back in shape. It was a lovely day--55-60 degrees, clear, sunshine. The south facing crag was gorgeous. We could hear and see boulderers below us, but we had the place to ourselves.
Rich bolted a line that was next to a warm up. I hadn't even noticed it. McLovin Arete turned out to be a super classic 11 or 12- with some slopey slaps and some tight bowling ball pockets. It's short, but packs a punch.
I put in an anchor after top-roping a route I'd eyed the few times I'd been there. I finally decided it was worth bolting after going up it a few times. Funny, I've not bolted a route in several years...more than several. It felt so good to take my time to suss out the bolt placements, getting a real attraction to the moves. I've been excited to go back this week and put the rest of the bolts in it and bolt a link into it that will be super hard. The weather on my day off was crappy. But tomorrow is supposed to be good and if I can get some damn sleep tonight maybe I can even do it tomorrow.
