Spinnin' Wheels
Gina and I decided to go climbing at the Drawl today. Ryan and Betsy told us they had gone out last week and we were inspired. Marc let me borrow his snow shoes and Gina went to Peace Surplus to get some. While at Peace, some gnarly chicks were eyeing Gina's car looking at my camera and the snow shoes in the back. When we got there they split up but acted as suspicious as I've ever seen anyone act. I can't believe someone would try to rob a car in the broad daylight, parked in front of a store. Hopefully Champ's fierce barks held them off long enough for us to arrive. Yeah Champ (and Sue--she's really the mean one :).
We were so busy yapping that we didn't really notice that there weren't really tracks out to the draw. It was funny b/c we both realized it at the same time that we'd gone too far and it was FAR too late then. It's been awhile since I've been as devoted to doing something as I was to getting that car un-stuck. I gathered rocks out of the mud (I hate mud!), sticks, bark and floor mats. Gina walked up the road and borrowed a shovel and began digging us out. While she was gone, I continued diligently. At one point I looked up and notice my hands and all of me was covered in mud. When I walked in the snow I would go in to my hips. Even tho I knew it would happen it was a shocker everytime. Good think I bought those wellies last week, they saved my butt!
We finally got it all dug out and the rocks all placed perfectly under the tires (this was after we called AAA). I knew we'd get it out and I did! But then the car started slipping to the drivers side and more into the snow instead of into the tracks. Just then Mike, a local there, drove up in his Nissan 4x4 and drug us out the rest of the way. THANKS MIKE!!! I got so stressed and frustrated. I couldn't figure out why the truck was spinning the wrong way and then I was driving too fast when he got us unstuck. It was hard for me to think of everything at once. I've never been stuck like that. I realized that I've never lived anywhere where we had snow like this (at least as long as I've been driving). I'm learning a lot about snow and when it's best to do what. Probably not go to the Draw again in awhile.
We decided we'd still snowshoe out and try to climb. We had gotten a sled at Peace to have Champ tow Sue on--since Sue's little legs get tired so easily and cold. Champ was game, but Sue didn't trust him--he's somewhat of a wreckless driver. Gina got Sue to ride the sled some. We ended up riding the sled more than we climbed, but it was tons of fun!
